III.  Treasury Report:   Andrea said we have about 2500.00– roughly 2,000 of which is committed to planting heirloom apple trees in Durham public schools.

David A mentioned Slow Food USA disbursing portion of membership dues to local conviviums

IV. Terra Madre: Applications due April 30; October 23-27; 2008; Last time 6,000; this year 7,000; 700 from US; 4 per delegation, but last year we sent 19.

Slow Food  International seems geared more toward developing countries – USA seems more geared towards farmers' markets – this year its all online  - "every man for himself – lesson learned last year: some folks got a lot out of it, some folks didn't. This year encourage people to apply who will get the most out of it.

1) Lex: "How does the money work?" Alex – " US delegate pay for travel to Italy; Slowfood pays for delegates travel & lodging in Italy" Salone is open to everyone, but not Terra Madre.

Last Terra Madre was not as rewarding because of staying in hotels as opposed to staying w/actual farmers/producers in Italy. SF USA has left it loosely – goose-y b/c it's all unclear at this point. Andrea thought maybe we could get 10 perhaps. NC had 2nd largest delegation.

2) Fundraising for folks: Last year we raised $200 per person. $1400 is estimate of plane tickets. In 2006, 16 Restaurants participated & donated 10% of sales for the night. Andrea suggested 30 restaurants as a goal for this year.

V.  Slow Food Nation – Slow Food event San Francisco Labor Day weekend to highlight USA Artisan Food.  Counter Culture & Farmer's Daughter submitted applications

VI.  Blog – form a committee of interested bloggers. Tom Philpott will be a resource. Cross-post. Incentive? Lex suggested setting up guidelines for what is appropriate to post. April suggested gathering & posting oral histories/interviews.  Mike Tiano is willing to post about Greek wine dinner.

VII.  Events
1) Mike Tiano talked about Greek wine Dinner for a grape that is on the Ark will be at Lantern. Date TBA.

2) Tomato Tasting: Ark tasting in Triangle – did not get a date on this?

VIII.  Ideas from membership

1) Mark Overbay:  Home Cook Events – wants coop kitchen options.  Suggested: Piedmont Biofuels; A Southern Season; UNC Memorial Hall; University of Humanities? El Centuro Latino? Reaching out to the other communities. Brainstorming more local events.

2) Jim: interested in Kids events –making homemade pasta with his own kids is a big success.  Partnering with mentoring agencies, such as Blue Ribbon or Teens Climb High was suggested.

3) Lex mentions "the Choir" is not so educated in response to suggestion that we reach out into other communities and "stop preaching to the choir."  The choir being folks who shop at farmer's markets, whole foods, weaver street market, etc.  April mentioned that community gardeners don't know what to do with the produce that they grow.

4) Mara - interested in philanthropy – "great American Bake Sale" Scholarships? Food Bank? Silent Auctions: Food Bank; Buying a CSA box for families in need; Community gardens.

5) Kathryn – interested in getting the word out about the Slow Food community – tabling at Farmers' Markets?
